The Battersea Antiques Jamboree & Appraisal Fair

The Battersea Foundation and Renaissance Promotions, Inc. will join forces to present a new quality antiques show to be held in the mansion and in tents on the grounds of historic Battersea, an 18th century Palladian villa in Petersburg, Virginia, September 17, 18 & 19, 2010. 18th century Palladian villa in Petersburg, VA

“We are extremely excited about the potential of this show to become on of the preeminent antiques events in Virginia” stated Renaissance’s Bob Taylor. “Battersea is such an unique property with 30 acres of surrounding grounds. Where else can antiques dealers actually set up their wares inside a historic 18th century Palladian villa. John Banister, the builder of Battersea was not only a friend of Thomas Jefferson’s, he was one of the framers of the Articles of Confederation.”

The new show will benefit the Battersea Foundation, whose mission is to preserve historic Battersea and offer educational, artistic and cultural experiences that inform, enrich, and inspire the public. Also new this year will be an opening night Preview Gala hosted by Battersea from 6 to 9 pm Friday evening September 17.

The Battersea Antiques Jamboree and Appraisal Fair is actually in its third year. “With our new association with Renaissance Promotions we hope to take the Antiques Jamboree to a new level”, commented Battersea Executive Director Tempy Barbru. “The last two years our focus has been on the Appraisal Fair with just a hand full of antiques dealers. We are really looking forward to having a professionally managed up scale antiques show this year. The always popular Appraisal Fair will continue in its usual format.”

Other upcoming events at Battersea include a production of Shakespeare’s A MidSummer Night’s Dream on the Lawn, and in October will host a session of the Petersburg Antebellum & Civil War Artifact Forum, Columbus Day weekend.

Renaissance Promotions, Inc., owned by Louise Jesse and Bob and Deanna Taylor, all antiques dealers and enthusiasts, promote dealer friendly shows. “This location offers such a special opportunity. We always make every effort to insure that our shows meet all the needs of our dealers and our paying customers,” added Louise Jesse. “We are working hard to make this a very special event. Fine antiques and art will grace the rooms of Battersea for the first time in over a hundred years.”

Renaissance’s remaining 2010 Schedule now includes the November 20 &21 (Antiques & Antiquarian Books).

The Battersea Antiques Jamboree and Appraisal Fair hours are Friday (Preview Gala) – 6 til 9, Saturday from 10 til 6 and Sunday from 10 til 4, admission remains at $5 per person. Dealer inquiries are encouraged. For more information call (804) 462- 6190 or (804) 769-8866.
